Title: Multi-instrument measurements: problems of processing, comparison, and fusion of data
Abstract: Nowadays, multi-instrument measurements are increasingly used in various fields to improve the results of measurements, diagnostics, forecasting, pattern recognition and solving other problems. The use of measurements performed by different means and with the help of different physical principles allows you to get a more versatile assessment of the object of observation. But this apparently productive approach is obviously associated with difficulties in processing, comparison and fusion of various data.
This talk, as a concrete example of such problem, is devoted to discussing peculiarities of simultaneous observation of the atmosphere using W-band cloud radar, laser optical disdrometers, and weather stations. After brief overview on meteorological radar calibration for quantitative information obtaining, we will focus on problems of data fusion based using big data set obtained with multi-instrument observations fulfilled during several years in the Cabauw experimental site in the Netherlands by the research team of the Delft University of Technology. Specialized MATLAB software tool developed for such processing complex data will be presented.
